Empowering Change, Uprooting Norms
women@ work
In the Women@Work Lab Group, we're re-writing the dictionary for workplace culture. Join us in a mission to dismantle outdated norms and amplify voices that have been sidelined for far too long. This is a movement that transcends gender; it's about reshaping the future of work for everyone.
who we are
We are an all-gender collective of change-makers who recognize the urgent need to examine the complex systems that influence the status quo in the workplace. We are redefining work culture by exploring and addressing the myriad ways traditional philosophies devalue women. An equitable future is possible - and we're taking the first steps to shape that future.
let's redefine norms together.
In the women@ Work lab, we are…
✨ Unearthing Agency
We believe in agency for everyone, and so we are dedicated to uprooting workplace norms that restrict agency and empowerment, fostering an environment where every voice is not only heard but also valued.
✨ Exploring Working Parenthood
We delve into the complexities of parenting and its intersection with work, aiming to create workplaces that support all parents in balancing their responsibilities.
✨ Questioning Societal Expectations
We challenge societal norms that have historically confined both women's and men's roles. By dismantling these barriers, we're creating a space where individuals can express their full potential unburdened by traditional expectations.
✨ Exploring the History and the Future of Womanhood
Understanding our history helps us shape our future. We dive into the rich history of the women who came before us to define and work toward our preferred futures for women at work.
✨ Thinking Intersectionally
Our exploration extends beyond gender. We tackle topics such as feminism, women's health, finances, DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging), LGBTQIA+ rights, and agism, exploring systems holistically rather than in silos.
"Over the last 12 months, [the Women@Work Lab] impacted my life a lot. I had a group of people to help me through my own personal learning journey. I couldn't have done it on my own."

FAQs

The Women@Work Lab Group is a completely inclusive space. Anyone who is passionate about learning about workplace norms and how they affect women is welcome to join. Our focus is on creating a diverse and inclusive environment that encourages open dialogue and collaboration.
-
Nope! While the Women@Work Lab Group is dedicated to challenging norms that have historically devalued women, we believe that achieving gender equality requires the participation of all individuals. We welcome people of all genders to join us in this transformative journey.
-
Absolutely! We understand that some individuals may prefer to join the Zoom just to listen and absorb the discussions without actively participating in every session. Your presence and willingness to engage with the topics are valuable contributions to the collective learning experience.

We use a few digital tools for our Lab groups!
1. Our Digital Community
This private community is a place for all members to asynchronously interact and share. Here, you'll find a feed where you can share thoughts, questions, articles, or even longer-form ideas. This is also where you can keep track of and RSVP for future virtual live Lab sessions.
2. Zoom
While someday we hope to have all our members gather IRL for a Lab Group event, we gather for our regular sessions on Zoom. Many members are on-camera and speaking during sessions, but some members choose to participate off-camera, by Zoom chat, or even listening on mute.
3. Digital Whiteboard
When we collaborate and co-create as a group, we generally use Miro. Our work is open-source and transparent, so feel free to explore it!
-
No, you don't have to commit to attending every session. We encourage an open and flexible approach. Feel free to join the Women@Work Lab Group sessions that align with your attention and availability. This is a space where you can come and go as you please, contributing your insights whenever you're present. RSVP to whatever lab sessions you can make here so we know how many to expect, but there are no commitment requirements.

Our Mind Palaces are a way for us to enter the space in a thoughtful yet engaging way. From playful brainstorms about magazine headlines for Women@Work to a dissection of our understanding of words like "power," "natural," and "bravery," the Mind Palaces put us in the right headspace to connect and explore together.
Community Updates
This is a section of the Lab time that is open to all - if anybody has anything they'd like to bring up to the group, or if community organizers have any announcements or upcoming schedule changes, this is when they will do it.
Rabbit holes
This is the exciting part of the group discussion! Here, we'll explore any of a wide range of topics, including agency, parenthood, societal expectations for women, the history and status quo of womanhood, feminism, women's health, finances, DEIB, LGBTQIA+ rights, agism, and more. Our goal is to explore diverse perspectives and challenge existing norms in the workplace.
This is also where some members may "show and tell" thoughts, work, or relevant observations - this sparks invaluable conversation and it is absolutely encouraged!
Ending Mind Palace
To wrap things up, we usually end with a simple Mind Palace that leaves us with hope. Often, it's a question about what members feel most grateful for leaving the session.
-
Join our Women@Work digital community! Once there, you'll have access to all of the conversations and articles that members share, as well as the dates, times, and RSVP links for future virtual live Lab sessions and Liminal Space sessions.
